Deputy Director General of Health, Ministry of Health

Dr Shahnaz Murad is the Deputy Director- General of Health (Research and Technical Support), Ministry of Health Malaysia. She is responsible for the supervision of the Ministry of Health’s 6 research institutes. In addition, the Planning Division and the Engineering is also under her supervision. Prior to this she was Director of the Institute for Medical Research, the oldest and premier research institution in the country.

Her field of specialization is immunology. She established a large number of specialized diagnostic tests in the field of immunology and established the allergy diagnostic service for the Ministry of Health. She established the Malaysian Stem Cell Donor Registry in 2000.

She has a large number of publications in International Journals in the field of Immunogenetics and Allergy. She is a member of a number of International committees which includes the TDR / WHO, scientific advisor for Drugs for Neglected Disease Initiative (DNDi) and Governing Board for SEAMEO REFON in Indonesia.

Within the country she is a board member of the National Ethics Board, National Biosafety Board, National Herbal Council, National Committee for Research and Development in Herbal Medicine, National Committee for Clinical Research, National Stem Cell Committee and many others.
